About Protection Current Transformer

PowerTrac Protection Class Current Transformer (Protection CT) is a specialized current transformer designed for electrical protection and protective relay applications. Unlike a conventional metering CT, a protection CT is designed to maintain suitable performance during abnormal and high-current conditions such as short circuits, overloads and fault conditions.

The CT senses the current flowing through an electrical system and provides a proportional secondary current to a connected protective relay. The relay can then initiate the required protection action, such as disconnecting the affected circuit, helping protect electrical equipment and improve system safety.

PowerTrac offers Normal Protection CTs and Special Purpose (PS Class) CTs, with protection classes including 5P, 10P and 15P. These CTs are suitable for applications where reliable current sensing is required over a wide range of operating and fault currents.
